Why and to whom are literary works dedicated?

In Armenian and worldwide literature, there are thousands of works dedicated to specific people.  Moreover, most of them are not just gifts, but may contain aesthetic depths, intimate secrets, hints or even disputes and disagreements. Why and to whom are literary works dedicated, is it possible to make scientific and research findings based on these dedications?
