On May 22, within the scope of festivities dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the First Armenian Republic and May Heroic Battles,  in Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library of Etchmiadzin a thematic exhibition “From Independence to Independence” will be opened. The same day, a conference titled “The Republic of Armenia and the Role of the Armenian Church in the Establishment of the Armenian Statehood” will be held jointly with the Ministry of Diaspora.  
Pan-Armenian Armenian Educational Cultural Union donated 27 valuable manuscripts of XIV to XX centuries to Matenadaran. 
On May 17, by the initiative of Oriental Studies Institute of the NAS, the  third republican conference “Armenia and Eastern Christian Civilization” was launched. This year it was devoted to the 70th anniversary of blessed memory historian, professor Pavel Chobanyan. The authors of nearly 40 speeches to be presented at the conference are scientists from academic and higher educational institutions of Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Greece. 
Annual festival of dolma was held in Georgia. This is one of the most popular  events held by the support of the Georgian Armenian Diocese and “Hayartun” Center. 
International news: Pakistani Parliament made a decision to recognize third gender of humans. An exhibition dedicated to the Himalayan buddhist art is held in the United States.   The Christians of Britain will be allowed to wear crosses at the workplace.

Two days ago, a group of people blocked the road of the All Armenian Catholicos in Vayots Dzor Marz during his pilgrimage to Gndevank. The pontiff left for pilgrimage alone, without any company. The law enforcement officers stopped the blockade and the Pontiff arrived at the Mother See in the evening where he was welcomed by the clergy and worried believers watching the events. Arman Tatoyan, Human Rights Defender, has arrived in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to meet the Pontiff. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon the situation around the Armenian Apostolic Church when answering the questions on-line. He said he was aware of the situation in Vayots Dzor and was not happy with the police actions. These days, the police has not yet reported on this cases, explain their passivity, or take further steps.
On July 15, Catholicos of All Armenians received the pilgrims from Egypt and the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church in the USA. Egyptian Armenian children visit Armenia for three years now and spend two weeks at Tumo Camp. They have managed to walk around many sacred places and have decided to continue their education in Armenia. His Holiness urged the young pilgrims to do everything possible to represent the small Armenian community in Egypt with dignity. Later, His Holiness received the pilgrims from the Western Diocese of the United States headed by Father Harutiun Tashchyan.
On July 10-17, the Summer Ecumenical Camp of Kotayk Diocese hosted 40 girls aged 13-16 from various churches of Armenia.  The seven-day camp program was summed up with a Biblical Knowledge Contest. The children were visited by Archbishop Yeznik Petrosyan, General Secretary of the Armenian Bible Society and clergymen who participated in the training of priests.
This year the slogan of the camp was "Love Your Neighbor as Yourself". 
On July 16, a memorial service will be held at Holy Anna Church in Yerevan for Father Dajad Davidian. He was in the reanimation department of one of Yerevan hospitals, then moved to the United States, where he died. The funeral will take place in the United States, and the body will be buried next to his blessed memory wife.

On July 12, Catholicos of All Armenians received two  groups of pilgrims. The first group were young people arriving from Brazil. The second group were from the newly established community in Arabkir Yerevan - members of their women’s union, the Sunday School children, and Youth Union.  
It’s been six years since the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is in renovation.  In fact, it needs capital renovation since it is seismically endangered, and the southern dome is under the threat of destruction. During these years the working drawings of renovation and partial reinforcement have made up volumes. At what stage is the renovation currently?
The prize “Let there be Lights” of Golden Apricot Film Festival was bestowed to the famous film producer and critic Armen Medvedev. The ceremony was held in Parajanov Museum.  The prize was handed by Bishop Gevorg Saroyan and the Founding President of the Film Festival Harutyun Khachatryan on behalf of Catholicos of All Armenians.  The prize has been established by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. It has already been bestowed to Alexander Sokurov, Artavazd Peleshyan, Krzysztof Zanussi, Robert Gedikian, Roman Balayan.

On June 14, the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who was in Moscow on a two-day official visit, visited the Armenian church complex in Moscow with his wife. Accompanied by Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan - the Primate of Russia and Nor Nakhichevan, the Prime Minister visited the Holy Transfiguration Church, visited Tapan Museum nearby the complex, and the newly constructed Grigor Narekatsi School.
On June 14, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Karekin II Patriarch received Most Reverend Antonios El Soury, Metropolitan of Zahle and Baalbek of the Orthodox Church of Antioch and philanthropist Nicola Abu Faisal.  Fourth playground was opened in the borderland Aygepar with the funds of the “Guardian” Fund. The Armenian community of the Netherlands has been assisting this renovation. Primate of the Tavush diocese, Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, welcomed the guests from the Netherlands, including well-known specialist of international law, Anton Van Kamtauta.
6th exhibition of "Creating Hands” exhibition project opened in the lobby of Gevorkyan Theological Seminary. This time the students of the Academy of Fine Arts Victoria Shahbazyan and Mary Epremyan presented their works. The 20th anniversary of the consecration of Berdzor Holy Ascension Church was celebrated in Kashatagh. 
News - Celebrations at the Gatigyugh district of Constantinople were dedicated to the Feast of the Holy See of Etchmiadzin. 
On June 3, Bishop Marcos Hovhannisyan, the leader of the Armenian Diocese of Ukraine, anointed the bells of the Church of the Holy Virgin of Belgorod-Dnestrovsk. 
On June 10, the Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Nourhan, consecrated the Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator  in New Jerusalem.

On May 10, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated the glorious Feast of Ascension.   The same day our Church is also celebrating the Patriarchal See from Sis to Etchmiadzin.
The Feast of Ascension in the newly constructed Arabkir Church. 
The fresco of the dome of Gevorkian Theological Seminary library will undergo partial renovation. The fresco features Armenian rural landscape, in the center is Komitas Vardapet resting on a road-side stone.
On May 11, Gevorkian Theological Seminary held a conference dedicated to the centenary of Archbishop Maghakia Ormanyan.   
International news: During the reconstruction works in the center of Moscow, a fragment of a container for storing relics of XV-XVI centuries was unearthed.  A medieval underground church has been discovered in the Northern Syria. The Sikhs wearing their national garments organized a march in New York. Anglican Church is making attempts to settle the scandalous story of Lancashire. The Order of Malta has a new Grand Master - Italian aristocrat, art expert and archaeologist Giacomo Dalla Torre.

On June 9, on the previous day of the ceremony of presentation, an ordination of 12 deacons was held in Srbots Hreshtakats (Holy Angels) Church of the Mother See.  
On June 10, by the presidency of the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians, in St.   Grigor Lusavoruch Cathedral of Yerevan, ordination of 12 deacons took place. 
The completion of the ordination ceremony of the 12 deacons, the atmosphere was quite tense in St.  Grigor Lusavorich Churchyard. A group of demonstrators of the initiative “New Armenia, New Patriarch”, led by Father Koryun and Karen Petrosyan, called for the resignation of the pontiff.
 In response, the crowds gathered in the yard of the church accompanied the Catholicos Karekin II by a pontifical prayer and "Vehapar" slogans. 
The Estonian translation of the “Book of Lamentations” of St. Gregory of Narek was published in Estonia.

An exhibition titled "Armenia" will be opened at New York's Metropolitan Museum on September 21. More than 130 exhibits will tell a about the Armenian historical and cultural heritage of the 4th to 17th centuries, which will be provided by the Mashtots Matenadaran, the Armenian History Museum and the Museum of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. 
The Publishing House of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin published the second volume of the series "Book of Sermons: “Heritage of Ararat” It is a collection of translated sermons published in the official  periodical “Ararat” of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
 

 

Ecclesiastical life 08.07.2018


July 8 was the last day of the gathering “Towards Homeland, Towards Holy Etchmiadzin”. It coincided with the Feast of Transfiguration. The festive Liturgy was offered in Yerevan St. Gregory the Illuminator Church by His Holiness Hovnan. The Liturgy was attended by the Supreme Patriarch along with the priests of the Mother See. He sprinkled rose-water on the believers and blessed them. On the last day of the gathering the young people visited Tsitsernakaberd to commemorate the victims of Genocide.
On July 7, ACYO continued its gathering in Tsakhkadzor. 400 members of the gathering reached to Kecharis Monastic Complex singing with the clergy.  They had a meeting with the President of Armenia Armen Sargsyan in the evening. The Director of ACYO Headquarters Gevorg Mkrtchyan informed his friends that by the presidency of Karekin II Catholicos of All Armenians the Catholicosate Residence adjacent to St. Anna Church was allocated to ACYO.
Five years ago, a joyful tradition of celebrating the eve of Vardavar was established in Ararat Patriarchal Diocese. The members of Ararat Patriarchal Diocese Youth Union organize a march with the support of Yerevan City Hall to the Children’s Park with songs and dances. The celebration was joined by pedestrians, tourists, people resting in the Children’s Park. 
Today is celebrated third major feast of the five feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church - the Feast of Transfiguration or Vardavar. Our Church celebrates it 98 days following the Feast of Holy Resurrection, between the period of June 28 to August 1. The festive liturgy was offered by Rev. Father Minas Hakhverdyan of the Mother See. 
The pilgrimage day of Hovhanavank is also celebrated on the Feast of Transfiguration. The tradition was commenced by Karekin II. It is celebrated since 2013, when the silver reliquary containing the relics of St. John the Baptist was for the first time taken out of the Mother See and taken to Hovhanavank. As per the tradition, the Patriarch Grigor Lusavorich established the Monastery on the relics of John the Baptist. Many believers came to participate in the festive liturgy and receive the blessing of the relic of John the Baptist.
 
 

 

Ecclesiastical life 08.06.2018


On June 5, an announcement was made on the Facebook page of the initiative “New Armenia, New Patriarch”, demanding new Catholicos elections in Armenia. Members of the initiative invited their supporters to gather in the yard of St. Anna church in Yerevan.
Only few people responded. By the invitation of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, on June 7 the members of the initiative grouphad a meeting with the Patriarch and the Bishops at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. 
The Bishop class, as the main guarantor of the canonical order of the Armenian Church and the immunity of the Armenian Catholicos, affirms that the resignation of the Catholicos is imposed by an external and violent intervention, thus is invalidated. On June 8, a bishops’ assembly was held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, attended by the bishops holding positions in Armenia and the lay members of the Supreme Spiritual Council.
The Assembly issued a statement. 
The Pontiff of All Armenians received the nominees for the AURORA Humanitarian Initiative Award this year.

V. Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan was elected as the Primate and Bishop-Elect of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church in the USA.  
The first Sunday of May is the pilgrimage day of St. Katoghike Church in Jrvezh: this year the sermon of May 6 Father Kyuregh dedicated to our present public and political life. 
Last month, the benefactor of the Armenian Church Harutyun Arslanyan turned 94. 
The Olympiad of History of the Armenian Church was finalized in Eurnekian School of the Mother See. 
Dialog non governmental organization organized a discussion for the members of Youth Union of St. John the Baptist Church on the topic of “The Christianity of Garegin Nzhdeh” hosting the presenter - historian Gagik Mikayelyan.

On July 4, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II visited the members of the World Youth Union of the Armenian Church, who continued their work in Tsaghkadzor.
Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II proclaimed 2018 a year of youth. The main program is "To the homeland, towards Holy Echmiadzin” Pan-Armenian Youth Program. From July 4, around 400 young people live in Armenia from diverse dioceses of the world.  
Today in the morning of July 6, about two dozen people invaded the building of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Chancellery. With their ultimatums and provocative actions they disturbed the work routine of the administrative part. 
In response to their ungrounded rebukes, the Holy Lance was shown to them. 
The traditional spiritual backyard camp was launched in Odzun. Around 100 young people aged 15-30 from Aragatsotn Diocese were hosted in the Monastic Complex  St. Astvatsatsin of Odzun for one week. 
On July 1, in the village of Kulikam in Akhalkalak, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, reconsecrated the Holy Trinity Church. 
The Japanese restorers visit the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin for the third time. The occasion of the visit was the stitch type restoration training.
The presentation of the 3rd book by Yuri Galstyan, a gifted teacher of the Eurnekian school took place at the Eurnekian Public School of Echmiadzin. The methodological manual for the solution of physics problems was elaborated for both students and teachers. 
On July 3, 40 children from Kharberd specialized orphanage had come to watch "Tzuk-Mzuk" performance on the initiative of the Mother See Social Service.

On June 3, the Armenian Church celebrated the Feast of Katoghike Holy Etchmiadzin. 
On June 2, an Armenian Church Youth District Center was opened in Saghmosavan village, which was blessed by Karekin II Catholicos. 
On June 3, on the Feast of Katoghike Holy Etchmiadzin, 17 cross-stones placed at St. Anna Church yard in Aghavnatun village of Armavir Marz were replenished with another cross-stone dedicated to the heroes of April war. 
On June 2, in Masis St.  Gevorg Church, Father Ashot Safaryan blessed 7 beneficiary children of the Child Support Center of Fund for Armenia Relief.  
On June 2-4, the three-day seminar entitled "Ensuring Spiritual and Psychological Sustainability for Soldiers" was held in Aghveran with the support of the Armenian Inter-church Charitable Round table of the World Council of Churches. The training was attended by chaplains and psychologists serving in different military units. 
A tuff-made cross-stone was installed in Vanadzor on the opposite side of Vazgen Sargsyan's bust. It is dedicated to the memory of the deceased soldiers of the legendary 5th Motorized Rifle Regiment in the May-June victories of 1992.

This year the Feast of Apparition of the Holy Cross coincided with the anniversary of reconsecration of Aparan Holy Cross Church. On April 29, the sacred relic of the Lord's cross was taken from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to Aparan.  
On April 20, the Union of Religious Women of Holy Etchmiadzin celebrated the 58th anniversary of their establishment. 
International news: On April 30, the Primate of the the Western Diocese of Northern America blessed the foundation and the columns of St. John Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church in Hollywood.
A Christian chapel was opened in the Agriculture University of Faisalabad, Pakistan.
The Westminster College of Cambridge University hosted a symposium dedicated to Reformation.
New Bible to be published in Israel. The purpose of the new publication is to unite the Jews and Christians emphasizing the significance of Israeli lands and their ownership by the Jews.
The examinations in Princeton University have been rescheduled because of Ramadan. 
Irish Police discovered the relic of the patron saint of Dublin. 
The Choir of Eurnekian School of the Mother See was recognized a winner in Renaissance International Festival held in Gyumri featuring more than 3100 individual performers and ensembles from 37 countries.
