Martin Vardazaryan


Martin Vardazaryan, National Artist of Armenia, stepped into movie world accidentally, which then turned to be fatal… The music written for the films “Hello, this is Me”, “Saroyan Brothers”, “Labor”, “Solitary Walnut Tree”, “Live Long”, as well as for a number of documentaries and animations is one of the abundant pages of his creative life filled with interesting memories. Maestro himself, his old-time friends, National Artist of Armenia Hrachya Gasparyan, Alexander Grigoryan and Merited Worker of Art Yervand Yerznkyan tell about all these events.

Education and Reality


In this modern world eduction is often viewed as a factor of long-term changes that lies in the foundation of public, economic and social reform. Are OUR reforms conditioned by the factor of education? Moreover, are OUR realities conditioned by the education factor? Third Milennium pavilion hosted Henrik Grigoryan, professor, Doctor of Philosophy and Nikol Margaryan, ethnographer, Assistant Professor in the YSU Chair of Culturology to discuss the topic of the Education and reality. Two Roads


The film “Two Roads” is a story about two young people with hearing disability, who are continuously fighting and creating. One of the heroes is 27 years old Hayk, who can’t imagine his life without dancing, while 17 years old Goharik dreams of travelling, painting and then selling her paintings and supporting her family. “Two Roads” voices the difficulties faced by people with hearing disability living in Armenia, reveals the attitude of the society and the state towards people with such issues. The film was produced by the request of “French-Armenian Development Foundation”.

Rouben Mamoulian


Rouben Mamoulian - stage and film director, creator of “Becky Sharp” (1935), first full-length feature technicolor film, innovator in cinematography, lived and created in the US. “The world is a theatre, and people are actors, the most important thing that matters is to perform well regardless the quality of the play”, - said the classic of cinematography.The play “Rouben Mamoulian and the Rest” lasted for 90 years. Its hero experienced joy and bitterness; he managed to create some unsurpassable films of the times – “Applause”, “Queen Christina”, “Silk Stockings”… The program presents the life and career of Rouben Mamoulian, as well as exclusive shots from his visit to Armenia. Artsvi Bakhchinyan, film critic participated in the program.

Films of Roman Balayan are famous and loved by different generations. They reflect the breath of the time and values of various social groups. Our compatriote now lives and creates in Kiev. He is the most vivid personality of modern Ukrainian cinematography. Balayan is also known for his exquisite and high taste screen adaptations of Russian classic literature. He was with us offscreen for several hours…

Achievements of Armenian Composers Abroad


Composer Mushegh Petrossian has won the most outstanding award ever granted in the sphere of world classical music – Queen Elisabeth Prize, the Queen of Belgium.

Mushegh Petrossian has a wide range of interests: he studied theology, ancient languages. How can classic philology and modern composition art be combined, what are trends of contemporary classical music? Hayk Hambardzumyan discussed these issues with composer Mushegh (Michel) Petrossian.

Vladimir Msryan


The contribution of Vladimir Msryan, RA National Artist, is really immense in the Armenian stage craft. He played numerous roles – from the clown to king, never giving up his principles. In cinematography he remained as irreplaceable Paganini, and in the theatre – as Herostratus, while in real life he is a simple and ordinary Vladimir Msryan. His friends tell about him offscreen.

Armenian Commercial Capital in the 17-18th Centuries


Based in News Julfa, Armenian merchants operated a network of commercial settlements stretching from London to Mediterranian and coasts of Indian Ocean. How did the Armenian merchants manage to accumulate huge capital, what was the mechanism that had their international network running? And most importantly, what were the causes of such capital to perish? The topic is discussed by Sebouh David Aslanian, Dean of Term Chair of Modern Armenian History in the University of California, and Smbat Hovhannisyan, professor at YSU Chair of World History, Doctor of Science in History.
