Feast of Assumption at the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin

Today is the Feast of Assumption of the Holy Mother of God - fourth of the five tabernacle feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the oldest of all seven feasts dedicated to the Holy Mother of God. Before the XII century it used to be celebrated on August 15. The feast became movable under the Presidency of the Catholicos St. Nerses Shnorhali and up to now it is celebrated on the Sunday closest to August 15. Today the celebrant of the Divine Liturgy was the Grand Sacristan of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Bishop Hovnan Hakobian.
