Palm Sunday was celebrated with great pomp in the churches of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia


In the courtyards of St. Gevorg and Holy Etchmiadzin churches of Tbilisi, the faithful participated in the liturgy and then the festive Liturgy with bunches of green twigs. Palm Sunday was also celebrated in the Holy Cross Church of Akhalkalaki, Saint Gregory the Illuminator of Akhaltsikhe, Saint Sargis Church of Ninotsminda. The spiritual pastors of the diocese visited the Armenian-inhabited villages and performed the Andastan service and blessed the children. In the churches of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia, following the Evening service, the Order of Opening of the Doors was performed.

The innocent victims of the Sumgait pogroms were commemorated in Tbilisi


From the area adjacent to St. Etchmiadzin Church in Havlabar, the youth of the Georgian-Armenian community marched with the flags of Georgia, Armenia and Artsakh to the St. Gevorg Presbyterian Church and joined the Sunday Liturgy. Later, a memorial service was held for the peace of the souls of the innocent victims of the mass pogroms organized against the Armenian population in Sumgait on February 27-29, 1988, 36 years ago.
 

The Armenian community of Tbilisi celebrated the 155th anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan


On the birthday of Hovhannes Tumanyan, the Armenians of Tbilisi, together with the spiritual leaders of the community, visited the Khojivank pantheon, the grave of the writer, where a memorial service was performed. The Armenians of Georgia also visited the house of Tumanyan and participated in the event organized on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the poet.

An exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Nersisian Spiritual School of Tbilisi was opened in the "Hayartun" center of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia. The author is Tbilisi-Armenian public figure Levon Chidilyan.
Levon Chidilyan, a researcher of the Nersisian School and the Armenian trace in Tbilisi, has collected many archival materials and exhibits from archives, museums and libraries of Georgia and Armenia.
 

The Armenian Diocese of Georgia celebrated the feasts of saints Ghevond and saints Vardan


On the occasion of the feast of priests Ghevond, a Divine liturgy was celebrated on February 6 in the St. Gevorg Presbyterian Church of Tbilisi. Two days later, a liturgy was held in the same church, dedicated to the day of commemoration of Saints Vardan and 1036 witnesses.

The Armenian community in Tbilisi celebrated the Feast of Saint Sargis


In Tbilisi, Saint Sargis Day was celebrated with a procession to the chapel built in 1883 bearing the Saint's name. From the courtyard of the Holy Etchmiadzin Church in Havlabar, the believers with the icon of Saint Sargis and crucifixes went to the Saint Sargis Chapel in Kharpukh district.

The fourth of the five tabernacle feasts of the Armenian Church, the oldest feast dedicated to Our Holy Mother of God, was also celebrated in the churches of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia. On Monday, August 14, a requiem service was held for the repose of the souls of the dead.

The Armenian shrine, built with the vision of the Illuminator, became a blessing and a gift in the life of the Armenian people, therefore it is considered the peak of Armenian national and spiritual feasts. The feast of the Universal Church of Holy Etchmiadzin is the sacred feast of all people of Etchmiadzin and their Patriarch.

Baharj or gatha is baked on the occasion of Median Day of the Great Lent among the Armenian Georgians. Various gathas baked specially for that day were blessed and distributed to the people.

Requiem Service in memory of the Armenians who were victims of the Sumgait crime


From February 27 to 29 in 1988, a massacre of the Armenian population was organized in Sumgait city of Soviet Azerbaijan. 18 thousand Armenians of the city became refugees.
