New undertaking of the Foundation “Cultures Dialogue”


This is the second initiative of the “Culture Dialogue” of this year in commemorating the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. Painter Tigran Kirakosyan lived and painted in Germany for 2.5 months and presented his works at a personal exhibition. Merited artist and piano Hayk Melikyan had a solo concert in the same country titled “Waiting for the Dawn”. The artists told about the initiative during the press conference.

 

Ruben Hovsepyan


Ruben Hovsepyan, the script writer of the films “Winepress”, “Nostalgia”, “The Apple Garden”, “April”, entered the world of cinematography in an unexpected way, which was a turning point in his life. To the writer, these were the best years of HayFilm, when the cinematography was directly linked to literature. “There is this saying, that if a film succeeds, it’s due to the director, if it fails, then it’s the scrip writer’s fault”.

Frescos of St. Gevork Church in Tbilisi under restoration


During the restoration of St. Gevork Mother Cathedral in Tbilisi valuable frescos were discovered. IDEA Foundations, along with the renovation activities in respect to the Church building, invited specialists to perform comprehensive identification and restoration of the frescos.

Restoration of St. Gevork Church in Tbilisi


In 2012, by the blessing of Karekin II, Patriarch of All Armenians, with the support of the Georgian authorities and the initiative of IDEA Foundation, the renovation of Mother Cathedral St. Gevork in Tbilisi was launched. The construction is planned to bring to its completion this year.

Dzori Miro


Film director Zhirayr Avetisyan shoot the movie Dzori Miro in 1979-1980. For the first time, the fedayis were openly exposed on the big screen. “The mere fact of shoot a film on this topic especially in Soviet times, was already a heroism. We became one fist and achieved our goal”, remembers Sos Sargsyan. 
The crew members present in details what difficulties were overcome, what creative arguments and disagreements went the film through.

Ruben Sevak


In 1915, a young Armenian doctor in Cankiri healed the daughter of a rich and influential Turk.   In return, the Turk moved by gratitude, tried to convince the Armenian doctor to adopt Islam and save his life from sure death. However, the doctor didn’t think twice to refuse saying that conversion from one religion into another is betraying your nation. 
This young doctor was Ruben Sevak, famous Western Armenian writer and professional doctor.

Presentation of the Armenian translation of Mark Mustian’s The Gendarme


Within the frame of the festival “Literary Arc: April”, the newly-opened library of Cafesjian Center for the Arts hosted the presentation of the Armenian translation of Mark Mustian’s The Gendarme. The translator is Maro Madoyan-Alajajian. The mentioned book has been translated into ten languages and won prizes.

 

Canonization: part 2


Second part of the film presents the history of canonization of the Armenian Genocide, provides explanations as to why and how are they canonized. The film also underlines the fact of restoring canonization order after the interval of many centuries. 

Komitas Vardapet


Many in his native town knew this skinny, thin and pale boy. “Little wandering singer”; this was how they called this wise and kind boy in worn-out clothes often seen asleep on the cold stones of laundry. The wandere was young Solomon, years later to be known as Komitas Vardapet.

My Palm Sunday


“I was so happy I couldn’t sleep through the whole night. I kept doing vocal exercises”.

On Palm Sunday, the heroes of the TV series “Little Acolytes” were the guests of the Patriarch of All Armenians at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

Government Decision on Memorial days – topic for discussions


In 2008, the Government of Armenia passed a Decision on considering all Memorial days following major holidays of the Armenian Apostolic Church to be non-working days.  It was replaced by the next Saturday. However, during the last seating of the Government, the PM Hovik Abrahamyan  announced, that since from January Armenia is a member of European Economic Union, where Saturday and Sunday are non-working days, the replacement of Monday with Saturday might hinder the operations of certain organizations. This decision had caused wide-scale discussions.
