3 Lawyers Carried the Canopy of His Holiness the Patriarch on the Feast of the Holy Resurrection


On the Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Catholicos of All Armenians traditionally serves the festive Liturgy in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. This year, the canopy of His Holiness the Patriarch was carried by lawyers Ara Zohrabyan, Yerem Sargsyan, Ara Ghazaryan, and Dr. Arthur Grabsky. This is not accidental, because since last year the church has been forced to defend its right to independence, autonomy, and spiritual mission in court.

On Good Friday, all churches commemorated the crucifixion and death of the Lord


The day of Christ's crucifixion is a day of sorrow for all Christians. On Good Friday, the Divine Liturgy is not celebrated, because Christ himself was crucified on the cross. The clergy read from the four Gospels the episodes describing the last hours of Jesus' earthly life: being taken to Pilate, his crucifixion on Golgotha, the surrender of his spirit, and the signs that followed: the eclipse of the sun, the tearing of the temple curtain.

 

The Order of the Eclipse was Performed in the Armenian Apostolic Churches


On the evening of Holy Thursday, in memory of the betrayal and suffering of Christ, the Order of the Eclipse is performed in Armenian churches, which is part of the sacrament of Good Friday. A foot washing ceremony was held in all churches. In the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, according to tradition, the ceremony was presided over by the Patriarch of All Armenians.
