Birthday anniversary of Tigran Mansurian

On January 27, the music world celebrated 75th anniversary of the composer.

In 1996, after quitting the position of Lead Conductor of Boston Symphonic Orchestra, Aram Gharabekian returned Armenia. In his homeland, he was entrusted with the responsibility of combining Yerevan State Chamber Orchestra and Armenia State Chamber Orchestra to create one Orchestra. After a short while, the Orchestra assumed active role in the music life of the country. Armenian audience has a vivid memory of the concerts Aram Gharabekian organized. In 2014, January 11, the music world had a grave loss – sudden death of the renowned conductor happened in the United States.

Week of Penderecki in Yerevan


From January 13-16, third series of concerts of KrzysztofPenderecki music was held in Yerevan, which was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the great musician. Final accords of the program was in Moscow Cinema Theatre: the film about Penderecki “By Pathways of Labyrinth” was screened.

Candlelight Divine Liturgy in St. Sarkis Church


Just like every year, St. Sarkis Cathedral of Araratian Patriarchal Diocese, was full with people on the Candlelight Divine Liturgy of the Holy Nativity. Present were Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan, the Prime Minister, Taron Margaryan, the Mayor of Yerevan and other officials. The celebrant of the Divine Liturgy was Bishop Mushegh Babayan.

New Year Preparations in Gevorkian Theological Seminary


Cheerful mood, lights, songs. Pre-holiday air is in full swing in Gevorkian Theological Semonary. Some are busying themselves with decorating the Seminary, others are preparing the New Year program. “The Seminary is the very heart of Etchmiadzin, if it beats healthily, then Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is still viable”, - believes the Dean of Seminary Bishop Gevorg Saroyan.

The soloists of “Zvartnots Renaissance” in the Komitas Chamber Music House


The ensemble of soloists “Zvartnots” presenting Armenian folk music managed to perform in 23 countries and win 8 prizes last year. The series of Armenian concerts the newly established ensemble started from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. Recently they had one of their concerts held in Komitas Chamber Music House.

State Theatre of Musical Comedy after Paronyan was established in 1942, during the years of the Great World War, so as Avetik Isahakyan said: “To fight with the power of laugh”. The characters embodied by the actors of theatre Izabella and Hayk Danzases, Karp Khachvankyan, Svetlana Grigoryan are unforgettable examples of the “power of laugh”. Now the shift has been assumed by the new generation.

Deacon Davit Chetenkaya


Fourth Auditorium for priest education is being established in Gevorkian Theological Seminary. It allows entities with higher education to perform priestly services. Deacon Davit Cheteynkayan is from Istanbul. He came to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to fulfill his dream. Alongside with his education, Deacon Davit also sows garments for priests.
