Statement by the Mother See regarding the report published by the Government of the Republic of Armenia

The Information System of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has issued a statement characterizing the report on the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church published by the Government of the Republic of Armenia as unconstitutional, contrary to canon law, and illegal; it further assessed the report as an act of political retribution and a reprehensible interference in the internal life of the Church.

The Mother See reaffirmed the position adopted at the Assembly of Bishops convened in St. Pölten, Austria, calling on the authorities of the Republic of Armenia to cease the persecution of the Church and to respect its centuries-old sovereignty and autonomy.
