The feast of St. Vardan and his Companions is a national and church feast. The soldiers who died on the Avarayr field in 451 are considered the Holy Martyrs of the homeland. They fought and died for the sake of faith, Armenian identity and homeland, unhesitatingly sacrificing their lives for the future of the country. Two days before the feast of St. Vardanants, the Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the clergymen who died in the same war, the Ghevondyan priests. His Holiness distributed a blessing to the believers gathered in the temple.
