On January 21, 2021, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan was appointed as the Primate of the Artsakh Diocese. Bishop Vrtanes was in Artsakh during the 2020 war. He replaced Bishop Pargev, who had serious health problems, and was the first head of the Artsakh Diocese after the reorganization of the diocese.
